Bread making project update!

Hey Family!!! I have been holding up well in the bread making department and thought I would update you on my week-long challenge. I am happy to say that I am really enjoying making home-made bread and my family is enjoying eating it. It seems as though the more I make the faster it goes. LOL!

I have made loaves, rolls, and guess what else????

Pizza dough! Yes, I am excited about this because my family LOVES a good pizza, so, I made some.

The pizza’s turned out AWESOME! My hubby even said that he is considering just making home-made pizzas from now on.

Making bread will be a staple from now on in my household! I have really enjoyed this challenge! I have done bread every day during this challenge. I even made pancakes from scratch this morning and the familyenjoyed them too. No more buying store bought bread items for me. This challenge has made me realize how important cooking things from scratch really is. My family really appreciated the freshness of everything and I got to connect with my children in new ways by having them help me in the kitchen preparing (even my three year old contributed). This is just the beginning of  ”The Real Housewife of Arkansas’”transition into being a Domesticated Diva! For those wonderful super people  out there making their households their corporate america, I thank you! You are a true source of inspiration to those around you, including myself. Many Blessings to you!

Home Made Bread Project…. YUM….

I had written earlier this week about a project that I was going to be tackling. I was going to throw caution to the wind and walk right past the bread aisle with my head up. Why, you ask? I dont need those store bought brands because I was going to try my hand at making my own bread. Project Home Made Bread is activated. I am attempting to make bread for the next seven days. I always wanted to try making bread and now I have my opportunity. YES! I was supposed to have started yesterday but I had a really intense day at the grocery store and it just wasn’t in me to make bread after the day I had, so I got up this morning, gave my WH (wonderful hubby) a kiss, took the older kids to school, fixed my little one some cereal and headed for the kitchen.

I will say that this was a great experience. I felt a sense of pride flowing through me as I waited for the dough to rise. It was absolutely awesome. The smell that waltzed itself through out my home embraced  me as I swayed to its rhythm, only to be dipped back into reality as I heard the timer go off to take the bread out of the oven. Oh, yes family….. It was ready! My little one smiled and laughed with glee as she tugged on my apron to have some…I told her she had to wait patiently while the bread cooled but could see her looking up to the stove as if it were Christmas and she was peeking to see what she was going to get. Once cooled, I gave her a piece and she swallowed her piece down like she was showing me how to do a magic trick…”good mommy” she said. I took that upon my heart like I had just received a medal of honor. I received similar responses of greatness from all of my children and my WH. Domestic Diva does it again! I may not be able to leap tall buildings in a single bound but I can darn sure make a smile appear on my family’s face in 5 minutes or less. Gotta love the fun I am having….

I will post the recipe for this bread as soon as I can recover the recipe. My WH cleaned the laptop clean (bookmarks included) so I have to locate the recipe again. ;-(

GUEST BLOGGER!! Lets Talk Turkey from “The Old School Cooking Grandy”

Hello Family! I am so excited to have on my blog today an AWESOME woman who is a true diva and knows how to handle the holidays with creativity, style, and fun! She is “The Old School Grandy” and she is here to share with us some wonderful tips and suggestions for having the most wonderful and money saving holiday season ever. Let’s see if we can get her to do a couple of more guest spots real soon… ;-)

With the economy in the shape that is in now, we need to get back to basics and prepare our Holiday Meals the Old School Way.  We can get away from splurging and do what the mothers and grandmothers of the past did.  We scrimped and saved. One thing that I find interesting is that it seems you can find a turkey cheaper at Thanksgiving than at Christmas so buy two when shopping for Thanksgiving.  This will be the beginning of your Christmas meal as well as Thanksgiving.  Also, if you are not having a large crowd, go with turkey parts instead of the whole bird.

With some smart shopping skills, you can have both dinners out of the way at the same time.  Since Christmas is only a month away from Thanksgiving, I am going to share some tips that will have you singing praises to our ancestors.  My tips will make you the hostess that everyone will envy.

Buy frozen string beans, frozen cranberries, and use frozen vegetables for your dressing.  When you shop for the sage, poultry seasoning, Aunt Jemima Self Rising White Corn Meal Mix (this eliminate the need for salt and baking power just add milk and egg), cream of chicken soup (instead of broth), and any condiments, this will eliminate you having to purchase again for Christmas.  If you season your string beans or greens with meat, make enough for Christmas and freeze them as well.  Only make the things that your family really like. Don’t always go traditional.  You can make good Sweet Potato Pies from canned sweet potatoes.  Pies are much easier to make than cakes so if your family loves pies, try them.  Also, there is canned peaches and blue berries and they make awesome pies in a hurry.  Buy the already made pie crusts to save you time.  Aldi’s, Food For Less and Sam Club have very reasonable prices.

Now on to decorating.  I find that I always go back and look at what I had in years past and bring some of my decorations out and revamp them.  You will be surprised at how a coat of paint can change things.  I would visit places like Michael’s or any craft store in your neighborhood and find inexpensive items and make them pop.  Get the kids involved and buy unpainted ornaments, and have them paint them.  They will remember them for years to come.  Shop your fabric stores for fabric pieces and turn into a wonderful tablecloth.  Some of the fabric can be used to make napkins as well.  In those shops you can also find candles and flicker lights that require a small battery but have no fear of a fire.  Find some of your mother’s or grandmother’s old candle holders and use them to make a spectacular setting.

FoodNetwork.com and HGTV.com can provide you with a war chest of recipes and decorating hints.

I hope I have helped you some.

Have a wonderful Holiday Season!

Upcoming Projects! Operation Save money~

Since I am just starting this journey of being a Domesticated Diva I have learned so much and am still learning some awesome things. I have learned how to make home made laundry detergent, and dishwashing detergent. I have learned some great recipes for my family and some cleaning tips. BUT….I am not through yet. I am just beginning to get my queendom in order. So I am going to list here some upcoming projects/challenges that I am going to be doing. If you are interested in joining me during this time that would just add to the fun.  Keep in mind I will be adding to this list and crossing off the list those things that I accomplish. If you know of any great things that you do in your home to make life easier or to save money let me know that as well. I am up for trying things. A few of these projects are going to take a long time due to what they entail but its best I let you know that now so that you wont expect me to be a DOMESTIC GODDESS by the end of the month. LOL!

UPCOMING PROJECTS:

  • Home Made Bread Challenge (11/19 – 11/26)
  • Make my own essential oil (TBD)
  • Couponing (Currently doing but will keep you posted on my deals-starting January I will be showing how much is spent and saved on this blog)
  • Once a month Freezer cooking (starting December 3rd)

I guess I will be keeping my self busy.  Also if any of you know of any activities or homeschooling programs for three year olds I would appreciate it. Have an incredible day. Let’s enjoy LIFE!
